- Summary
Preston Technical School was renamed the Preston Technical College in 1965. The College comprised both the boys' and girls' technical schools, the apprentice, certificate and technicians' schools, and the full-and-part time, diploma and evening schools (Carroll, 1995, p. 3). According to the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) (VPRS 18550), the Preston Technical College became a division of the Preston Institute of Technology from 1968. The college then became independent of the Institute at the end of 1981. At this time, the name of the college was changed to the Preston College of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) (State Government of Victoria, 23 December 1981, p. 4263).
