Preston Technical School opened on 2 February 1937. The official opening by the Victorian Minister for Education, Dr. J. R. Harris, occurred on 21 April 1937 (Melbourne Polytechnic, undated). In 1965 Preston Technical School was renamed Preston Technical College, although the latter name had been used for a number of years (Carroll, 1995, p. 3).
