In 1971, the Melbourne School of Printing and Graphic Arts received college status and became the Melbourne College of Printing and Graphic Arts (A9905679, 1985, RMIT University Archives, p. 3). The college separated from the Education Department on 30 September 1981 and became responsible to the T.A.F.E. Board. On 1 January 1995 the Melbourne College of Printing and Graphic Arts merged with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University (James, 2001, p. 23).
