Henry Talbot, born Heinz Tichauer, was a mid-century photographer in Melbourne. A Jewish refugee from Germany, he arrived in Australia on the HMT Dunera and formed a pivotal partnership with fellow refugee Helmut Newton. Talbot earned recognition for his innovative fashion photography. In the 1970s he began teaching, leading the Photography Department at Preston Institute of Technology and later as Senior Lecturer in Photography in the School of Art and Design at Phillip Institute of Technology. He was a member of the Society for Photographic Education. In 1985, he moved to Sydney, continuing his work despite battling cancer. His work is preserved in major collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Australian National Gallery.
