- Summary
Ludovico Wolfgang Hart was born in England on 3 February 1836. While serving with the Royal Engineers, he received instruction in photography from notable photographer Charles Thurston Thompson. In 1877 he emigrated to Australia, having been hired by the New South Wales Government Printing Office to introduce photomechanical processes. Hart went on to photograph the 1880-81 Melbourne International Exhibition. In 1887 he was appointed Instructor in Photography at the Working Men's College and was instrumental in establishing the Working Men's College Photographic Club (later the Melbourne Camera Club). He was designated Honorary Instructor at the inaugural meeting of the Club on 14 April 1891. Hart retired to Hawaii in 1901 and lived there until his death in 1919.
