Summary

The Honourable L. H. S. Thompson, Minister for Education, opened the Ronald Mackay Building on 17 September 1976 (SER-09918, 22 September 1976, p. 1, RMIT University Archives). The building was built on a former factory site for TAFE engineering departments. The building was named after Ronald MacKay, principal of the Melbourne Technical College from 1952 until his death in 1963 (Edquist and Grierson, 2008, p. 98).
