Summary

Building 51, initially known as the 'General Studies and Administration Building', was completed and handed over on 26 January 1923 (SER-09915, 5 February 1973, p. 236, RMIT University Archives). In the Report of the Policy Committee in the Royal Melbourne Technical College Council Minutes of 26 March 1973, it was reported that 'the General Studies and Administration Building in the Technical College be named the 'Frederick Campbell Building' (SER-09915l, 26 March 1973, p. 281, RMTI University Archives). Frederick Campbell was principal of the Working Men's College from 1887 to 1913 (Murray-Smith and Dare, 1987, p. 472).
