Summary

Building 9 originally housed the Electrical Trades and Radio Schools. The foundation stone was laid on 13 October 1937 (Edquist and Grierson, 2008, p. 48). The building was completed in two stages, with the first part opened in 1938 for the Electrical Trades School (Heritage Council Victoria, 1998; The Sun News-Pictorial, 3 November 1938, p. 22). During the war, army and air force communications staff were trained in the building under Ronald Mackay (RMIT University, undated).
