On 27 February 1928, the Principal of the College, Frank Ellis, recommended 'the Preparatory School be known in future as the "Junior" School of the Working Men's College'. This recommendation was adopted by Council (SER-09905, 27 February 1928, pp. 663 and 667, RMIT University Archives). Evidence of the name change can be seen in the 1928 and 1929 Working Men's College Inc. Melbourne Technical School Prospectuses (see page 61 in both editions).
Details
On 1 January 1933 the West Melbourne Technical School amalgamated with the Working Men's College, and the Junior School of the Working Men's College was transferred to West Melbourne (Eltham, 1934, p. 20; Prelector, 17 May 1934, p. 7; The Melbourne Technical College, 1934, p. 103).
The junior school was closed in 1938, with the site in West Melbourne used for the new William Angliss Food Trade School (Melbourne Technical College, 1941, p. 148).
When the Essendon Technical School was opened in 1939 many of the staff of the Melbourne Technical College Junior School were transferred to Essendon (Murray-Smith and Dare, 1987, p. 214).
