Summary

Building 19 is Melbourne's former City Watch House. It was designed by the Public Works Department architect George B. H. Austin in a Romanesque Revival style. The building was constructed in 1907/08 by F. G. Shillabeer on an old cell block of the Old Melbourne Gaol (National Trust of Australia (Victoria), undated; Edquist and Grierson, 2008, p. 202). The City Watch House was purchased by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 1997 (RMIT University, undated).
