Summary

The construction of Building 55, or the George Thompson Building, was commenced in 1966 and completed in 1968 (Edquist and Grierson, 2008, p. 94). The building was named after George D. Thompson, vice president of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Council from 1963 to 1968 (RMIT University, undated). According to Murray-Smith and Dare (1987, p. 366) the full name for the building was the George Thompson School of Foundry Technology.
