- Summary
Building 1, the Francis Ormond Building, is of severe educational Gothic style. The first stage of the building - the Bowen Street wing - was completed in 1886, and opened by Francis Ormond in 1887. The second wing, located on La Trobe Street, was opened in 1892 (Edquist and Grierson, 2008, pp. 4 and 6; Royal Melbourne Technical College, 1955 (compiled 1954), p. 15).
