Summary

Myrie Phillippa Shappere may have been the earliest woman to graduate from the Working Men's College. Shappere was awarded a Public Analyst Certificate in 1910, followed by a Diploma in 1912 (S94000007, c.1903-c.1939, pp. 2 and 5, RMIT University Archives). In 1910, Shappere became the first woman to pass the Board of Health Examination as a Food Analyst under the Health Laws for the State of Victoria, and the first female food analyst in Australia (Punch, 29 September 1910, p. 9; Weekly Times, 20 August 1910, p. 10).
