Summary

On Wednesday 21 March 1934, at the opening of the new Sir John and Lady Higgins Chemistry Laboratories, the old chemistry laboratories were conferred with the name The David Avery Laboratories by the Director of Education, Mr J. McRae. David Avery was the first Head of the Chemistry Department (Ellis, Frank, 'Principal's Report and Recommendations' in Melbourne Technical College Council, 26 March 1934, p. 1401).
