Summary

Harold Freedman OAM studied at Melbourne Technical College (known as the Working Men's College until 1934) from 1929 to 1935 and subsequently had a career as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist. Freedman enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during the Second World War and was appointed as a war artist. After the war, in 1968, Freedman was commissioned by the Australian War Memorial to paint a large mural. On completion of the mural, Freedman was appointed Official State Artist for Victoria (1972-1983) (Australian War Memorial, undated).
