Summary

Jean Hagger was appointed the inaugural head of the Department of Librarianship at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in c. 1963 (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, 1964, p. 14; Murray-Smith and Dare, 1987, p. 370). Hagger was RMIT's first female head of department and the only female head of department in the Institute's first century (Ramsden, 2008, p. 357). Hagger was the Head of the Department of Librarianship until her retirement in 1977 (Murray-Smith and Dare, 1987, p. 371).
